WAIOEKA NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Undersecretary for Housing, accbmpanied by his private secretary, passed through the Waioeka Valley last week-end. Mr. A. Tyndall, supervisor of housing, and Mr. A. Gordon Hultquist, M.P., accompanied Mr. Lee. Mrs. Hultquist and Mavis, also Mrs. Jamieson, Gisborne, were with Mr. Hultquist. The journey was broken at Oponae, where Mr. Lee and his party were the guests of Mrs. A. J. Macrae at afternoon tea. Mrs. Macrae was ably assisted by Mrs. W. Young. The weather is changeable at present but still very warm, and humid conditions prevail.

Anglers still find the Waioeka River attractive for fishing, and several good catches are reported. Visiting anglers are delighted with the size of the fish, several weighing 6 and 81b. respectively having been landed. A small number of dead fish has been seen in the river, but the cooler days have caused a decrease in the mortality

Mr. Roy Mclntosh, Auckland, who has been spending a holiday with Mrs. G. Hamilton, “Okiore,” has left to visit friends at Opotiki and Whakatane prior to his return to Auckland.
