DAMAGE TOTALS £6OO
FLYING BOAT MISHAP
CAUSED BY SIGHTSEERS
SYDNEY, Feb. 3
One of the Royal Air Force flyingboats visiting Sydney for the celebrations began to sink at its moorings at Rose Bay last night, and was beached with the fore portion Hooded and extensive damage to the hull.
Squadron-Leader Feather expressed the opinion to-day that some curious person in a rowing-boat, after or before inspecting the flying-boat, perforated with a brass-tipped oar, the thin fuselage below the waterline, where a six-inch jagged rip was discovered. Through this rip the water trickled for hours.
The damage to the flying-boat is estimated at £6OO, including the loss of charts, logbooks and maps.
Severe damage was done to delicate precision instruments, cameras and batteries.
