CHINESE IN MALAYA

(Reed. Dec. 9, 11.15 a.m.) SINGAPORE, Dec. 8

Seven hundred Chinese employed in a Japanese-owned iron mine at jOhore to-day refused to work, declaring that the results of their labours were being diverted for the manufacture of munitions for Japan. The mine produces 30,000 tons of ore monthly, a sixth of the Malayan total, wjiich is all Japanese controlled. It is expected that 5000 Chinese in other iron mines will also strike. THREE N.Z. DOCTORS SERVICE IN CHINA (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. A decision that three New Zealand doctors should be sent to China was made at a meeting of the joint council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, held to-day to discuss Far East relief. Authority was granted for the spending of £6OO on equipment. A committee consisting of Sir James Elliott, Dr. Alexander Gillies and Dr. T. Duncan Stout was formed to examine the credentials of applicants.
