OUTPOST OF CANADA
GERMAN PURCHASE OFFER QUEBEC REFUSAL (Reed. Dec. 8, 9.30 a.m.) MONTREAL, Dec. 7. The Premier of the Quebec Province, Mr. Maurice Duplessis, to-day rejected a proposal by a German syndicate to purchase Anticosti Island from the Consolidated Paper Corporation, the owners, at a sum estimated at considerably in excess of £1,300,000. Mr. Duplessis declared that the island was one of Canada's strategic outposts.
