BLOWN INTO CREEK
UNOCCUPIED MOTOR CAR AUCKLAND OWNER'S LOSS (Spflcial to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. Set in motion by a strong northeasterly wind prevailing, an unoccupied motor car parked in Panmure was almost completely wrecked when it ran over the road end and fell into the Tamaki Creek. The car, a coupe model, is owned by Mr. R. Powell, who resides in the street. He parked the vehicle outside his residence, leaving the gears in reverse, but without applying the brakes. A neighbour saw the car, which was facing the creek, move off in an erratic fashion and called Mr. Powell. The vehicle gained momentum as it traversed 50 yards of turf sloping gradually to an almost sheer drop of 00ft. to the bed of the creek. Before the owner could reach it the car disappeared over the edge. It crashed through and broke an Bin. limb of a tree in its descent and landed in the creek on its wheels. The bodywork was shattered and wrenched from the chassis in parts. Mr. Powell said that there was no prospect of retrieving the vehicle, which he would have to dismantle at low tide. It was high water when the mishap occurred; otherwise the damage would have been much greater.
