Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bunker, Hastings, are visiting Gisborne for the Oollett-Nicoll wedding.
The Robert C. Horton scholarship for 1938 at King's College, Auckland, has been awarded to Graham Bernard Mead, of Taneatua. The Rev. A. J. H. Dow, Gisborne, is in Auckland attending the general assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Mi - . E. J. Phelan, No. 1. Transport licensing Authority, conducted a sitting of the authority in Rotorua this week ,and is proceeding to Opotiki and Gisborne via Cape Runaway. He will preside over a sitting of the authority in Gisborne on Monday. The Rev. R. C. Aires, M.A., curate of Holy Trinity Church, Gisborne, has succeeded in passing his examination for the degree of licentiate of theology, this being the fourth and final degree of the New Zealand Board of Theological Studies. Passengers who travelled to-day between Gisborne, Napier and Palmerston North by the East Coast Airways’ plane included Mesdames S. M. Mclntosh, R. English, and Wall; Misses McDonald, M. Eade, G. Eade and Wall; Messrs. G. McCormack, R. C. Scanlan, Dawe, Clifl'e, Gordon C Jones, and G. B. Edwards. When Mr. Wyvern Wilson retires from the position of senior magistrate in Auckland, as from Monday, he will receive three months’ leave of absence. During this term, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., will act as senior magistrate until a successor is appointed. Mr. F. K. Hunt, who retired from the magistracy last Christmas, is also to act in a temporary capacity according to a statement made by the Minister of Justice, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason. Dr. J. Campbell McKenzie, medical superintendent of the Timaru Hospital, will leave on Monday on a visit to the United States. There he will join his brother, Dr. Donald McKenzie, Auckland, on a tour of modern American hospitals. During' the three months of Dr. J. Campbell McKenzie’s absence, Dr. D. Moir, son of Colonel J. H. Moir, of Dunedin, and formerly of Gisborne, will act as medical supertendent at Timaru. Prior to his departure to-day for Wellington, Mr. M. K. Boon was met yesterday afternoon at the Gisborne Hotel and farewelled by a large number of the friends he had made while associated with cricket in this district. On 'behalf of the gathering, Mr. P. C. Dwyer spoke of the worth or Mr. Boon ns a cricketer, and enumerated some of the work he had carried out to the advantage of the sport in Gisborne. He then made Mr. Boon a presentation of a wallet and Drldge set on behalf of those assembled. Other speakers included Messrs. A. R. Baker, J. de V. W. Blathwayt, W. Stewart, G. N. Lockett, A. E. Bignall, D. A. Wells, J. Craw ford-Smith, J. M. Kay and R. Connop. Mr. Boon made a suitable reply.
