AMUSEMENTS

REGENT THEATRE "THE GOOD EARTH” Beyond the scope ol' descriptive words —rising above time and creed, race and prejudice—comes "The Good Earth," a great drama of a simple people. It is truly a masterpiece. Also screening is the official 1937 Melbourne Cup race. KING'S THEATRE JANE WITHERS IN "ANGEL’S HOLIDAY” When there is that gleam in Jane Withers’ eye, one needs to watch out for trouble. When “Angel" takes a day off, it means an off-day for the rest of the town and a laugh-spree for everyone else seeing “Ginger"' Jane Withers in her latest Twentieth Cen-tury-Fox hit, "Angel’s Holiday," which commenced to-day at the King’s Theatre. Filmland's most mischievous miss loses no chance of indulging in her usual madcap mishaps in a new role as amateur detective and newspaper reporter. Her best friends and severest critics in the new film venture are Robert Kent, Joan Davis and Sally Blane, featured in the cast supporting the young star. A long nose lor news and clues precipitates Jane into the faked disappearance, for publicity purposes, of a movie queen, played by Sally Blane, and she proceeds to gum up the works. Both Jane and her movie star arc considerably surprised, however, when a gang of real bandits steps in and conducts a genuine kidnapping, holding Sally for ransom and Jane and Robert as hostages. The interesting supports cover a wide range of topics. MAJESTIC THEATRE "LAND BEYOND THE LAW” AND “WE JIAYF OUR MOMENTS” Dick Foran, the singing cowboy, is the head of a good cast of Western players in the exciting story commencing to-day, "Land Beyond the Law,” a refreshingly invigorating adventure story of the Texas plainsmen. “We Have Our Moments” is a sparkling comedy-adventure story starring James Dunn, Sally Eilers, Mischa Auer and David Niven. The Melbourne Cup, the final chapter of "Secret Agent” and the opening chapter of “Wild West Days” also will be screened.
