PRODUCER TAKES OVER PROMISING DEVELOPMENT The producer of “Rio Rita" for the Gisborne Amateur Operatic Society, Mr. Walter George, has taken over the direction of the rehearsals, and to-day expressed the utmost satisfaction with the talent available in Gisborne for the presentation of such a show. Rehearsals of one or other of the various groups of society members take place every night, and Mr. George stated that the progress already made augurs well for the success of the production. Owing to Mr. Athol Allan having withdrawn from the cast, the committee of the society were under.the necessity ol finding another principal for the part of the "Kinkajou," originally allotted to Mr. Allan Mr C. V. Harfo has undertaken the role, and his experience in amateur stage work should ensure confidence among his fellow-principals. The .costumes and other appointments of production have come to hand, and officers of the society are preparing for their distribution. The costumes are a colourful lot. and the society actually has the choice of three sets from which to equio its principals, chorus and ballet- Stage management of the production will be simplified to some extent by the excellent condition of the scenery forwarded from Invercargill, where the “Rio Rita" season held recently was hailed as an artistic triumph.
