SEVERE BOMBARDMENT CITY CENTRAL AREA CHILDREN VICTIMS WARNING BY NEGRIN (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 12, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 11. Reports from Madrid state that the centre of the City was most severely bombarded to-day for two hours, the shells causing casualties among workers and shoppers and children going to school. A message from Valencia states that the Spanish Prime Minister, Senor Negrln, in a statement issued to-day, said that his Government was willing to send the International Brigade from Spain, provided the Italians were withdrawn. Senor Negrin added that if the civil war continued until the spring a world war would be inevitable A further stage in the consideration of the Italian note will be reached in London to-morrow with the return of the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden. It is assumed by newspapers that Mr. Eden will report to the Cabinet on Wednesday on the Italian note and on the result otf a preliminary consultation with the French Government. The negative and unconstructive character of the Italian note is much regretted in official circles in London.
DESTROYER TO RESCUE FRENCH SHIP STOPPED ALGIERS, Oct. 11. The French destroyer Gerfauil swiftly answered an SOS from a French cargo steamer, the Villedebougie, near Majorca. As a result a Spanish insurgent vessel which had stopped the Villedebougie quickly departed.
REOPENING OF FRONTIER LABOUR CALL FORECAST LONDON, Oct. 11. Speaking at a meeting of the Spanish medical aid committee to-day. Major C. R. Attlee, leader of the Labour Party in the House of Commons, foreshadowed that the Labour members of Parliament would demand the reopening of the Spanish frontier.
