A RETROGRADE STEP

CENTRAL AUTHORITY RULE ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY VIEW OF CITY MAYOR (Por Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The view that it would be a retrograde step to hand over the control of the electrical industry in New Zealand to a central authority was expressed by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, when opening the annual conference of the Electric Supply Authorities’ Engineers’ Association to-day. He said that he thought it would be the worst possible step for the community as a whole as the basis of all true democratic government was to keep the localities as far as pbssible in control of their own affairs.
