Te Karaka
"Greet everybody with a kind word. It is not enough to love those who are near to us; we must show that we do so," was the motto at the monthly meeting of the Te Karaka Women's Institute, which, in the unavoidable absence of Mrs. H. Allan, was presided over by the vice-presi-dent, Miss B. Orr. An address by Dr. A. L. Singer, Gisborne, on "Travel in Russia," was greatly appreciated, as also was the five-minute talk given by Mrs. Rowley on coalmines of the West Coast of the South Island. ■ The roll call of the day was a humorous story.
The competitions resulted: Bowl of violets: Miss B. Orr, 1; Mrs. F. Charteris, 2. Child's singlet: Miss L. Orr, 1; Miss B. Orr, 2. The singlets were handed to the district nurse for distribution. It was decided to hold the next meeting on September 8 instead of the scheduled date, September 16, which is flower show day.
