Maftakaoa
The monthly meeting of the Matakaoa Women's Institute was held in Te Araroa on Staturday, August 28, Mrs. Halliwell presiding. Considering t'.ie wintry weather, there was a gooid attendance of members. The motjLO for the month was: "Do It Now." It was announced that there would be a flower, produce and needlework show in Waipiro Bay on September 23, organised bfy the Waipiro Bay Institute membens. Members were reminded to continue collecting "silver" paper for the support of an orphan child. A competitictn, "Grandmother's Kitchen," was won by Mrs. Branson. The bowls qff spring bulbs for competition made, a pretty display, and so did the prettily worked table centres. The competitions resulted:— Afternoon tea lorrf.—Mrs. Cowan, 1; Mrs. Maddox, 2; Mrs. Rudland, 3. Bowl of spring bulbs.—Mrs. Rudland, 1; Mrs. L Hughes, B: Mesdames McKeddie and Cowan, tie, 3. Table centre.— Mrs. C. Hughes, 1; Miss Halliwell and Mrs. Jamieson, tie, 3. Afternoon! tea was much enjoyed, the hostefif.es being Mesdames C. Hughes, Harlliwell and L. Hughes.
