SUBSTANTIAL VICTORY

UNITED AUSTRALIA PARTY BY-ELECTION POLL SYDNEY, Aug. 8. Another Legislative Assembly byelection, fought on the issue of preselection, resulted on this occasion in the substantial victory of the official United Australia Party candidates, Mr. H. B. Turner, who was contesting the Gordon seat, which was rendered vacant by the resignation of Sir Philip Goldfinch. Mr. Turner defeated the Independent United Australia Party candidate, Mr. S. A. Storey, by 4500 votes.
