FRUITLESS SEARCH
LOST U.S.A. FLYERS EFFORTS NOT RELAXED HONOLULU, July 15. The 63 machines returned lo the Lexington after live hours of search yesterday without finding any trace of the missing flyers, Mrs. Amelia Earhart Putnam and Captain F. J. Noonan.
The pilots, operating in the intense heat, were compelled to rub grease on their faces to minimise sunburn.
Despite the growing despair, officers of the Lexington are not relaxing their efforts. They sent, out 42 planes this morning on a final search around Rowland Island and also to scan at least 600 miles of the route believed to have been followed by Mrs. Putnam.
It is stated that the search will end on Saturday.
