At a meeting of enthusiastic supporters of the game of American basketball, held at the Y.M.C.A. last evening, the matter of forming an American Basketball Association in Gisborne was fully discussed, but it was decided to held it over until Friday night. The directors of the Y.M.C.A. desire that all who take part in the institution's activities should belong to the Y.M.C.A. and feel that making the gymnasium available for use by any sports body to the detriment of the regular groups would be betraying the trust of the general public who supported the institution. For the Y.M.C.A. senior men's minimum subscription of 15s any young man desiring to take up the game may do so, the gymnasium being available for basketball for two hours on Wednesday nights and three hours on Friday nights. The Y.M.C.A. also observes the policy of not precluding from membership a young man who is not able to afford the subscription.
