YOUNG FARMERS’ CAMP

WOOL-UAUK WORKS VISITED The opportunity was given the 800odd young farmers at present in camp at tiie Manawatu A. and P. showgrounds to inspect the llax industry and the making of wool-packs from llax fibre at Foxton, the company being transported on their tour of the countryside by 87 cars. On arrival at Foxton they were met by the mayor, Mr. M. E. Pcrrcau, who accorded them a civic welcome. Mr. Alsop, president of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, also spoke, and expressed the hope that the visit would be of educational value. At Rough, Ross and Company’s mill, the various operations in the dressing of the flax leaf were explained by Mr. Sutton, who later gave an address to the lads on their return to the Town Hall, where a light luncheon was provided, the Chamber of Commerce being the hosts. The visitors were then taken over the woolpaek factory, where Mr. Hale explained the working of the mill, and handed each lad a pamphlet describing the operations. On the return trip the party halted at Mr. M. Voss’ property at Karere, where the Romney dock was inspected prior to calling at Mr. J. Callesen’s holding in the same neighbourhood, where they were shown the pedigree clover being grown for seed.
