Why Curtains Fade
QUNI.IGIIT impoverishes net curtains more quickly than closely woven casement curtains. This is liecause so many of the threads in the casement curtain are buried in the fabric and thus protected from the harmful effect of sunlight.
Recent research shows that a curtain fades and becomes impoverished much more quickly when it is exposed to a draught and blown about by the wind. Apparently the moving air disturbs and loosens the threads 6f the curtain so that more of their surface is exposed to the sunlight. The dye protects a curtain from sunlight, particularly if it is any colour other than red and yellow, file deeper the colour of the curtain the more durable it is.
'The damage done to curtains by sunlight is much increased when they are washed with a ihot soapy liquor, especially if a little soda is present. In order to lengthen the life of curtains they should lie washed m a weak soap liquor as cold its possible.
