WINTER WOOL SALE 2300 BALES AT NAPIER The Napier winter wool sale was held yesterday, when there was an offering of 2900 bales, mainly crutchings, although a few lines of fleece wools were included in the sale. There was a large attendance of buyers, representatives of all consumers, including New Zealand manufacturers. Prices were firm on recent rates. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows:—“The July crutching sale was held in the Scinde Lodge, Napier, yesterday, when a total catalogue of approximately 2500 bales was submitted to a representative bench of buyers. Competition was keen, and prices compared as follows with tiie previous sale at Wanganui on Wednesday, July 7:—Best coarse crutchings wore about Id dearer, whilst seedy and inferior sorts were also Id dearer. Fine crutchings showed little or no change. The crutchings in this centre opened up in better condition than Iho Wanganui entry, and this, no doubt, accounted to a large extent for the slight rise in prices. Several super lines of crutchings were included in the entry, and these commanded excellent prices, but the bulk of the offering was made up of from good to seedy and inferior sorts. The United Kingdom, Japan, America, and the Continent, as well as the local speculators, were all in the market, accounting for the keen competition, and the major portion of the entry was sold under the hammer at satisfactorw prices. We quote: Super crutchings, 15d to 15Ad; good, free from seed, Md to 14.U1; ordinary, 12L1 to I3d; seedy and inferior, lOd to “lid.”
