P.B. HEALTH CAMP

CAKE OF CHILDREN EAST COAST INTEREST COMMITTEE COAIPLJAIENTEI) Warm congratulations to the Poverty Bay Health Camp Committee have been expressed by a number of East Coast residents in connection with the proposal to establish a permanent camp in this district for children needing the benefits of health camp regime.

The fact that until this year it has been necessary for children to travel long distances to secure these benefits has militated against the success of the general organisation of the camps, and now that the national memorial scheme is to be launched, the gift of a site for the Poverty Bay and East Coast camp is believed to have ensured that this centre will receive early attention.

‘‘.lust, a few lines to congratulate you and those responsible for the good work you are all doing, in trying to secure a permanent health camp in Poverty Bay,” writes Mr. A. J. 11. Kirkham, chairman of the Waiapu Hospital Board, in a letter to a member of the Poverty Bay committee. “Parents of the children who would receive most benefit from a stay in camp are loath to allow their children to go a long distance from home, and naturally would like to visit them occasionally, or get lo them urgently if necessary.

“In most cases they have not tire wherewithal, nor the time, to travel a long distance. A camp situated near Gisborne is absolutely necessary, if the ideals of the movement are to be carried into practice.” The sentiments expressed in the letter have been held by the committee from the inception of its work, and a widespread recognition of the need for a permanent camp in this district should go far towards ensuring the appropriate action on the part of (lie national memorial fund council.
