PORTION REMITTED

SUSPENSION OF LICENSE APPEAL TO MINISTER , (Por Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. As a result of an appeal to the Minister of Justice, a Dunedin motorist, whose license had been cancelled by the court for 12 months as from September last, has succeeded in having a portion of the term of suspension remitted.

In some cases on an application for a rehearing being made in the open court offending motorists have had their licenses reinstated, but it is understood that unless fresh evidence can be brought touching the charge on which the conviction and cancellation order are entered, such an application is not now entertained.

Through his appeal to the Minister, the motorist in question gained the benefit of the prerogative vested in the Governor-General by which the restoration of a license may be granted.
