BLATCH KNOCKED OUT
DEFEATED BY NEGRO FIGHT IN NEW YORK NO EXCUSES OFFERED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press As9n.) (Reed. July 9, 3 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 9. Alf Blatch, Australia’s lightweight champion, was knocked out in the third round of his first U.S.A. match to-day, hife opponent being the negro fighter Armstrong. Blatch weighed 9.451, and his opponent 9.21. Prior to the commencement of the fight. Blateh’s manager. Mr. Lucas, stated: “Blatch is very fit. We will have no alibis to offer if he does not win.”
The negro, Armstrong, was favoured by experts at the ringside, despite the Australian champion’s small weight advantage and his superior reach, which exceded Armstrong’s by five inches.
