SPRINGBOKS AT AUCKLAND

I SEATS FOR THIRD TEST REPLY FROM NORTHERN UNION (Notes by "Sideline. '') A reply of an unsatisfactory nature has been received from the secretary of the Auckland Rugby Football Union, Mr. T. W. Maben, in regard to the request from Gisborne for a block of seats for the third test match between the Springboks and the All Blacks, to be held in that city on September 25. The reply is to the first letter and the preceding telegram of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union. "I have not yet heard from the secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. A. E. Neilsou, with regard to our responsibility for the third test, but in any case nothing has yet been done in the matter.of allocating to unions and sub-unions," wrote the secretary of the Auckland union to the Poverty Bay union. "This matter will be dealt with after the springbok match on July 24. At the moment we are more than fully occupied in making preparations for the first match. In any case it will not be possible to grant 25 tickets to any union. The question of accommodation within the grandstand is still in the air and I will be able to give you more definite information at a later date." The position of the Gisborne peopleis that they want seats whether they will be in the grandstand or in the enclosure or at any other portion of the grounds. The grandstand would be preferable to many, but they would be willing to take seats on other sections of the ground. There are almost 70, names already on the list in the office of the secretary of the Poverty Bay union and these people are regular, patrons of Rugby in this district. If they are going to make the long trip to Auckland, which they are compelled to do if they wish to view a test match in New Zealand, they desire to be certain of accommodation in the. grounds at the end of their journey.
