UNION FUNDS STOLEN
SUM OF £SO TAKEN CONFESSION TO COURT (Per Press Association.) . AUCKLAND, this day. Until recently secretary of the Auckland Drivers and Related Trades Union, Charles Gordon Lindsay,' aged 43, married, was charged in the Police Court to-day with stealing sums of money totalling £6O 16s 7d, the propetry of the union. The president of the union, Arthur Bell, said in evidence that till June of 1936 Lindsay was employed as organiser. From then until February of 1937 he was employed as acting-secretary at £5 weekly, and until May last as secretary at £6 weekly. The witness detailed the payments made by him to Lindsay which were not entered in the books.
Evidence of irregularities disclosed by the books was given by an office assistant, Dorothy McKenzie, these including the use of a printed duplicate of the office receipt book.
The police said that when arrested at Ruatahuna, Lindsay made a statement admitting the theft. The accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
