GOODS FOR CHRISTMAS MANY CLASSES AFFECTED (Special to tho Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. Wholesale houses now stocking up with overseas goods for the Christmas trade are being advised of rises in prices for many classes of goods, chiefly in the fancy section. English manufacturers of crockery are marking up the prices and for English china there appears to be an almost general advance of 20 per cent. One big English manufacturer of glassware has increased prices by 10 per cent, while most earthenware lines are affected by the reduced discounts which represent an advance in cost of 7J to 10 per cent. Fancy goods in which rubber figures show rises on the English market of up to 25 per cent. Toilet goods are very little affected, except that composition combs are about 15 per cent dearer
