GRADUALLY DISAPPEARING
SNOW ON HILL COUNTRY FINE SIGHT PRESENTED The extent of the fall of snow on the hill country to the south of Gisborne could easily be seen from Gisborne this morning when all die misty clouds had lifted from die ranges to reveal the glistening white. Residents of Tiniroto and Hangaroa said that the snow presented a beautiful sight in the sunshine. There was a heavy frost last evening and it was noticed at Waerenga-o-kuri as early as 8 p.m. yesterday. No snow had fallen in that locality since midday yesterday, and it was fast disappearing to-day under the rays of the sun. It was thought possible that patches of snow would lay about for a few days in the shady portions of the district. There was only a slight fall in the vicinity of Tahunga, and it was considered that the storm had been centred more towards Tiniroto, where there was still a deep coating of snow on the ground. Although the roads have become slushy with the thaw, they have been open to traffic, and little trouble has been experienced by motorists.
