RIDERS’ RODEO

SHOWGROUND ATTRACTION

MOTION PICTURE PLANNED

Four teams of ridel's have nominated lor the district teams' competition to be decided at the appeal rodeo of the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association to he held on Saturday at the showgrounds at- To liapara. Many experienced l'idci'S-, together >vith a number of promising young aspirants for fame in the steerriding sphere, will compete for the open championship, a number of them having been in training lor weeks in the expectation of picking up some of the special pfi/.eS for spectacular riding efforts. Exceptionally good performances should he registered on this occasion. A motion picture of the rtxleo is to be made, and it. is probable that this film will command as much attention its did that of last, year’s fixture, which circulated widely and aroused much interest in Gisborne’s unique entertainment feature in New Zealand and Australia.

Special holding yards have been constructed for steers, horses and calves at the Gisborne end of the oval, and arrangements made to put out a bronco or calf-rider whenever delay is occasioned in getting a steer-rider under way. Air. Roland Graham is again supplying the cattle, and reports thaf they are a lively, vigorous lot. It is interesting to kqow that Air. Graham lias willingly supplied the cattle for the steer-riding for a number of years, and has no hesitation in claiming that the outing does them good. The cattle settle, down contentedly when returned to the station, and when eventually sent away as fats are quieter to handle, and do not distress themselves when travelling on the road,as is the case, with station cattle that have not previously been handled.
