WAIKOHU CLUB
TALK ON FRUIT CULTURE
The monthly meeting of the- Waikohu Young Farmers’ Club was held in the Waikohu Hall. Te Karaka, last evening. 20 members being present, Mr. R. H. Beattie occupied the chair. Apologies for absence were received from the president, Mr. G. Brown, and front Messrs. G. W. Smith and K. W. Cooper.
Five new members were enrolled
At the next meeting, to he held on Tuesday, June 29, Alt'. F. E. Wilson has offered to give an address on “Reasons why skins and hides should be treated in a practical manner.” Tho speaker for the evening was (Mr. 11.I 1 . Everett, /orchard instructor, Who spoke, on “Fruit Culture in New Zealand.” He said that the missionaries brought t-lm first fruit trees to New Zealand, and some of those trees were still bearing fruit. There were over 500 recognised varieties of apples in New Zealand. Fruit trees were classified under the headings, pip, citrus, stone, berry and nut. Air. Everett pointed out that when one was planning a home orchard it was best to have an early, medium and late variety of each kind of fruit required. At the conclusion of the address Air. Everett answered many interesting questions put forward by members. The meeting was brought to a close by a vote of thanks to tho speaker.
