Special Area Bates The rates in the various areas m the borough are shown as follows, together with the corresponding figures l'or last year and the increase sustained in each:— GISBORNE, IvAITI WHATAUPOKO
Effect of Lower Valuations The decrease in the total unimproved valuation of the whole borough after the recent valuation was 24.02 per cent. The decrease in the total unimproved value based on the reduction of 25 per cent last year was 7.1.1 per cent. In the different districts, the unimproved valuations this year show the following reductions on last year’s figures with the 25 per cent reduction then made: Gisborne, Kaiti and Whntaupoko, 7.21 per cent; Te Hapara, 2.4.'l per cent; Outer Kaiti, .18.7!) per cent; Mangnpapa, 10.21 per cent; Vox street, 1.24 per cent. During a discussion on the new rates, the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.V.. said that had the valuations remained the same as last year the increase per pound would not have appeared so great. In the Gisborne, Kaiti and Whataupoko areas, for instance, the increased rate, had the valuations been the same ns last year, would have been only 25/64d in the £ instead of 1 27/64.1 as shown. Similarly, the Te Hapara increase would have been only 32/64.1, instead of 1 34/64.1. . Cr. H. E>. Maude said that while the valuations generally had been reduced, all properties had not participated to the same extent in the reduction. (The detailed figure's are on page 13.)
