SHOOTING SEASON
OPENING AT WAIROA
SM.M.r, lUCS OBTAINED
(Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day
The shooting season opened yesterday morning in beautiful weather—it would he called so for most outdoor recreations, hut not so by spoilsmen, for there was not much of winter about it. They would have much preferred to find a lot more water about,, and possibly a good old-time ‘‘souther” would not have been unwelcome.
Not many guns were heard close to Wairoa, hut in the direction of Awamatc hags of seven or eight were about the run of the tallies, two guns getting 17 birds. The bags all round were small.
No definite word has come in from the Ministerial party at ‘‘the long cutting” on the Gpouiti road. They shot over the rough country in the Mangu-a-nike area, meeting with some successes, hut no definite tallies have lieen sent in. The members of the party, however, are enjoying themselves, and are very pleased with the camp arrangements carried out by Mr. Wallet Whyte tit the instance of Mr. £?. Jesseji.
