ISOLATING BUS DRIVERS
SCREENS TO BE FITTED PENALTIES FOR TALKING In order to prevent Inis drivers engaging in conversation with passengers, screens are to b$ fitted i:i the Gisborne muni eipal buses to isolate the drivers from-the main portion oE the buses. A report to this effect was placed before the Borough Council last night by the bus manager, Mr. Iv. G. , Ball, who stated that screens were being made to fit by the driver’s seat in all buses. “Many passengers,” lie stated, “have the habit ot' engaging the drivers in conversation, and distracting their attention. The Transport Act prescribes penalties for drivers who offend in this manner, and the fitting of a screen will help 10 redm-o the practice.” The revenue during the fortnight: ended May 23 averaged 10.52 d petmile. Fares and subsidies totalled JC252 Ss Od, and 575o w niiles were tun. Passengers carried totalled 20,030.
