ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF. OFFICERS WELL-ATTENDED REUNION (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. An attendance of 57 members was registered at tiie annual mooting of the Wairoa Returned Soldiers’ Association, held on Saturday evening, Major J. O. Scott presiding. The proceedings were very interesting, and satisfaction with the" conduct of the association’s business waa manifested bv the gathering, which returned the principal executive officers io their respective posts. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted, after the usual discussion, tiie credit balance in the accounts being commented on by more than one speaker, it being recalled that last year had closed with a debit balance. The report traced tiie activities of the association in connection with pensions and casual assistance, land matters, the observance of Anzac Day and the social side, including the annual reunion. Mr. C. V. Chamberlain was elected patron for the ensuing year, and the post of president was again filled by the re-election of Major J. O'. Scott, Mr. L. E. Galbraith, vice-president for last year, also was re-elected, as were a majority of last year’s committee, those appointed to carry out the duties of the executive for tiie ensuing year being Messrs. Votes of thanks wore accorded to all who had assisted the association during the year just closed. Subsequent to the annual meeting, the association held its annual reunion, there being 110 present, and Major Scott again presiding. A number of those present were visitors to the district, or temporarily resident in Wairoa, and local talent was well reinforced in the community singing which was a feature of the programme. The toast of “The King” was honoured with loyal enthusiasm, on the chairman’s motion, and the usual impressive tribute to “Absent Comrades" was offered. The New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association was toasted at the instance of Mr. L. E. Galbraith, Mr. J. J. Millar replying. Among the other toasts were “The Xursiqg Services,” proposed by Mr. R. Noble and responded to by Mr. G. M. O’Malley; and the “Hawke’s Bay War Relief Association,” proposed by Sir. I: H. Curlett and responded to by Messrs. J. Corkill, H. L. Barker, and C. V. Chamberlain. Ip the course of the evening, a number (if selections were played by a strong orchestral combination, and community singing also proved most popular, many hall-forgotten songs being revived for the occasion, and the evening being particularly bright and enjoyable.
