THE WEATHER To day’s North Island Report Overcast conditions were reported 1 his morning at Auckland, Hast Capo and Wellington, hut blue skies prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light southerly breezes were reported in the Bay of Plenty, and light north-westerlies further south. The barometer bad risen since yesterday. Temperatures at SI o’clock were: Auckland 53 degrees, Tauranga 55. Opotiki and Hast Cape 56. Cisborne 40. Napier 45. and Wellington 54. Bough seas were reported at Wellington: elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast An ant ieyelone is crossing the Dominion to-day, but a rather intense depression covers (lie western and southern portions of the Tasman Non. The forecast is for winds variable at first over the noil hern ball ol the North Island, otherwise noi l lierlies prevailing, light to moderate generally, but later becoming strong about and south ol Cook Strait, and backing to southwesterly during to-morrow in the far south. '.Seas in Now Zealand waters will he moderate to rather rough south of Hokitika, and later rising generally south of Cape Fgmoid and also about Cook and I'oveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will he I belly winds, liglil to moderate in the northern portion, with slight to moderate seas, becoming strong with rough seas in the southern portion. The weather will lie fair to line in most districts, hut with rain developing soon in south Westland and the far south, and unsettled conditions and rain extending to must areas with a westerly aspect within Urn next 'A'l lo Mi hours.
