A conference of representatives of eight county councils hold hero to-day in ooimcction with Lite local bodies amalgamation schemes bill, passed a resolution informing the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. K. Dairy, Hint, unless further information than that already disclosed, is submitted in respect of the advantages to be gained, it was emphatically opposed, at this stage, to compulsory amalgamation as the ultimate proposal of the Dili. 'flic resolution also invited the Minister to meet the county representatives here to outline and discuss the department’s proposals in respect of the amalgamation of local bodies in this district.
