FLAT LAND FARMERS A statement that the position of the flat land farmers would grow definitely worse in regard In Ihe burden of rales was made by Mr. P. s. Rriant, one of the deputation of farmers who waited on Ihe Minister of Public Works in Oisborne on Saturday evening.
"We are not here lo ask yon to shil'l the burden from ns on lo the hill people," Mr. Brinnt continued, "for they arc carrying' a heavy burden, too. bill I wish lo point on I thai much of. the flat land will have to pay this year a rate equalling about 3s (itl per sheep, while the higher country will pay only about Is per sheep. This includes the harbour rate."
"We consider Hint the posit inn will njrnw progressively worse," he went mi, "and we view with I lit' greatest alarm the possibility of a future revaluation of the county, because the practice seems to be to take the values off tin 1 hills and load them on lo Ihe flats, which the valuers think can bear an unlimited load. Wc hope that after you have hoard our representations, you can assure us that we will receive justice at your hands."
