ANGLICAN CHURCH DANCE (Herald Correspondent.) One of the most successful functions organised by the .Maori people for some time took place at Mangatuna on Friday night. The dance was arranged by the church committee under the energetic management of Mrs. Claude Keelan. and all sections of the parish, including Pnkctewai and Ananra. combined to ensure the evening's success. The visitors included parties from all parts of the Coast from Waipiro J'.ny to Whangara. and the bright lights of Hie cars as they circled trie meeting-house disclosed a' picturesfpic and animated scene.

Tbe interior of the meeting-house was gaily decorated with festoons of red. white and blue streamers, and clusters of balloons and favours also carried out in the national colours.

The. programme, comprising all the latest modem dance music, was played by .Mr. M. Ilubu. and extras were played by Mr. G. Whnrehinga, To Puia. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr. H. Goldsmith. Miss Parkinson and Mr. »S. Newton were the winners of the spot waltz, and competitions were won by Miss Baker and Messrs M. Crawford and W. Wharehinga. .interspersed with the dance programme were many charming vocal numbers, Miss Eva Hale, n gifted young singer from Tokomaru Bay, being worthy of special mention. Among the most attractive features of the entertainment wene the performances of the mixed haka teams from Waipiro liny. Tokomaru Bay, Manga!una and Pn'ketewai. Each team gave a finished exhibition, the harmonising being exceptionally line. The Tokomaru team had to respond to repeated encores, the beautiful actions of Miss Ira Clark contributing much to its success. For the beauty and correctness of the costumes tbe Pukelewni team deservedly held first place. During the supper interval the vicar, the Rev. W. Rangi, thanked the ladies of the committee and congratulated them on the success of the dance. Among tlio other speakers were Messrs. 11. Hautapn and Wi Manowni. About 150 guests sat down to a delicious supper. The dance, which continued until the early hours of Saturday morning, was brought to a conclusion by the singing of the National Anthem.

The Tolaga Bay W.F.C.M.B. troop have fired the. annual competition for the Loiscl Cup, which resulted as follows: Trooper M. O'Connell. 124 points; Trooper K. Taylor, 123 points. Trooper O'Connell also wins the Stoheham Cup for the highest, aggregate diking the year.
