WAIROA COMMITTEE FULL PERSONNEL ELECTED (Special to the Herald.) WMIIOA, this day. A meeting of the provisional Red C'i’oss committee was held last night in the Rest Room and Plunket quarters, Wairoa, there being in attendance Mesdames Murray, Marker, A. G. Nolan, M. IS, Svensen, M. llislop, ,J. S. Wilson, R. lirvant, and Gemmell; Misses E. Goad, E. W'hitta, and Dahm; the Rev. Father Doherty. Messrs. R. A. Peer., R. Drvden, V. K. Winter, J. F. Haughton, and M. Geimnel, with the town clerk, Mr. M. M. (FLonghlen. The Mayor, Mr. 11. L. Marker, who took the chair, apologised for the unavoidable. absence of Air. and Mrs. A. f. Carroll, Mrs. Simpson, Mrs. O’Loughlen, and Mrs. Pepper, and Mr. D. Glengarry. and said that Mr. and Mrs. Garroll were prepared to look after the native side of the work. The Mayor added that the business for the evening was to elect the permanent officials. Already great interest wa.-j being taken in the society by the people, he was sorry there was not a larger representation from the schools as the junior work should appeal greatly to parents and children alike, hut no doubt that interest also would grow. Major Abel had sent along a lot ot useful information and posters, which when exhibited would increase the interest, Mr. H. L. Marker was elected patron, and picked Mr. Glengarry as chairman of the executive, a position to which he was immediately elected. The executive was fixed at 12, with seven to form a quorum, and tile following were appointed : Messrs. R. .A. j/eez, M. ,J. Gemmell, .1. J. Millar (for'the R.S.A.), and A. T. Carroll, Mesdames A. G. Nolan, M. L. Marker, M. llislop, J. S. Wilson, .1. Ross (for the Plunket Society or her nominee). R. Bryant, and M. B. Svensen, Rev. Father Doherty, Drs. M. M. G. Halhvright and E. B. Jardine were appointed as advisers, and Mr. R. Drvden as treasurer. The' Mayor then vacated the chair in order to attend the monthly meeting of the Wairoa Borough Council and Major J. 0. Scott was appointed chairman for the rest of the meeting. Letters were read from headquarters regarding uniforms and other matters.
A vote of thanks was passed to Moore's, Limited, for having so effectively displayed the V.A.D. uniform in connection with the movement. The first meeting of the executive was fixed for Monday, June 7, at the Borough Council chambers.
