£SOOO THEFT IN LINER
JEWELS RECOVERED NEW YOTiTv, April .1. .Towels valued at £">000 wore .stolen aboard the Canard-White Star liner Aquitania, 45,(iT7 tons, last, week wliile the ship was returning from a South American cruise. The jewels, which were the property of an American woman passenger, were taken from the purser's safe, but were recovered .'id hqurs later. The thief apparently took advantage of a moment when the safe-door was ajar, and was not detected when he snatched the envelope containing tin; jewels.
