SERVICES TO EMPIRE WORK OF MR. BALDWIN PRAISE BY STATESMEN FUTURE GOOD WISHES (Elec. Tel. Copyright-United Press Assn.) (Reed. Mav 28. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 27. Tho Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, will resign from office on Friday.
The Liberals writ contest the Bewdlev seat when Mr. Baldwin retires.
At the conclusion of to-day’s meeting of the Imperial Conference, the Dominion Prime Ministers farewelled Mr. Stanley Baldwin in the Cabinet room at No. 10 Downing Street, and expressed great regret that this was the last occasion on which lie would preside at the Imperial Conference. Reference was aiso made, to the great, part lie had played at previous imperial Conferences and the Ministers conveyed to him good wishes from all the delegations for the future. They asked him to convey to Mrs. Baldwin a special tribute and a message of thanks for her great contribution to the social side ol the conferences.
Mr. Baldwin thanked the delegates and expressed bis implicit iaith in t-lic future of tho Empire and his confidence of the success of the present conference.
The Prime Ministers also sympathetically referred to Air. Ramsay MacDonald’s imminent retirement.
The King to-day gave an audience to Mr. Ramsay MacDonald at Buckingham Palace at 11 a.m., with reference to li is resignation from the Cabinet in which lie has been officiating as Lord President of the Council.
Contrary to earlier reports, Mr. MacDonald is not handing over the seals of office until Friday.
