THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report Blue skies were reported this morning at Napier, in the Bay of Plenty, and. at- Auckland, bub overcast- conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light to moderate southerly breezes were general. The barometer had risen since yesterday. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and East Cape 55 degrees, Tauranga- 54, Opotiki, Gisborne and Napier 53, and Wellington 48. Rough seas were reported at Castlepoint: elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast There has been a considerable rise in pressure to the eastward, hut a shallow depression is now crossing the. northern portion of the North Island, and a fresh one is moving on to the south-west' Tasman Sea. flic forecast is for-winds. 1 moderate to strong north-easterly to easterly at first, north of Kawliia and East tape, later hacking to south'- 1 westerlies; elsewhere light to moderate and variable. Seas in New Zealand waters will be rather rough to rough north of Fast Cape; elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea( southerly winds will prevail, moderateto strong in the northern portion, with rather rough sens; light to moderate and later veering to norllierlics in the southern portion, with slight to moderate seas. The weather will he- cloudy to overcast generally, ami in places misty, with scattered rains, more especially in the northern half of the North Island. Temperatures will be cool to moderate. Midday Forecast General inference!— Pressure lias-risen over the New Zealand region and especially to the eastward, bur lias fallen further over south-eastern Australia. Pressure gradients are. however, goner.- . ally slight, and there is very little storm. , activity.
