OUT FOR 102 RUNS
CAMBRIDGE ELEVEN FAILURE OF TAIL TOURISTS START REPLY FOUR GO FOR. FORTY-SIX (From tho Sppcinl Represcmtntivn of tho Unitud Tress Association.) (Reed. May 27, 2 p.m.) CAMBRIDGE, May 26.
Sent in first, the Cambridge University eleven were dismissed for 102 runs in the opening innings of the match against the New Zealand cricketers and on the drawing of stumps for the day the tourists had scored 46 at a cost- of four wickets. Cambridge made a slow start scoring 11 run in half an hour. Then Dunning sue. cessfullV exploited a leg trap, getting the two leading batsmen caught by Page forward of snort, leg and Carson close in at squareleg. The bowling then was ]8 overs, eight, maidens, 26 runs, two wickets. Cowie and Roberts were ineffective against Yardley who also drove Gallichan to tho boundary twice. He fell a victim to the Moloncy-Lowry combination from Moloney's first ball.
After lunch when the score was three for 70, the sun was "sweltering and Cowie received no benefit from the sticky WlCuOt, but it assisted Dunning and Gallichan to bowl accurately throughout the next three-quarters of an hour, the seven remaining wickets falling for 32 runs. Dunning Effects Rout Dunning, bowling round the wicket, spinning and swerving, completely routed the university. At one stage he took three wickets with four balls. Admirable placing of the. iield by Page resulted in Hadlee catching RoughlRought on the leg boundary without shifting an inch. The New Zealand fielding was perfect and the result justified Page in putting the 'Varsity in. New Zealand made a disastrous start. Hadlee was out first ball to a fast one from Rought-Rought. Page likewise went in the next over. • Carson and Roberts were forced iitto giving catches olf the left-handed medium slow bowler Eraser, but the wicket was now easier and the weather was overcast. Moloney continued scoring in easy fashion. He hit- three fours to point and cover. The approaching thunderstorm forced the drawing of stumps an hour early through bad light and then rain.
