PUHA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
CRAFTS DAY HELD
Yesterday the first crafts day of the group movement was held in the Puha Hall by the Puha Women's Institute. Members of the group institutes—To Karaka and Wliatatutu—were invited for the day to take part with local members in the craft instruction classes. Dainty lunch and afternoon tea were provided by the Puha members. Mrs. McGibbon, Gisborne, instructed a keen and appreciative class in leatherWork, and Mrs. C. Norris, Puha, undertook the instruction of those interested in brass-work. Roth classes resulted in some beautiful work being commenced, .including handhags, stool tops, pouches and blotters in leather, table lops, tray tops, and firescreens in brass. Class workers will have a further opportunity of continuing their work at the second crafts day to be held by the Wliatatutu Women's Institute, probably early in June. Te Karaka will follow with the final crafts day, thus giving members a splendid opportunity of completing the work undertaken. Later in the day Miss Aitken, of the staff of Messrs. Pelties, Ltd.. gave an interesting demonstration on the new wool craft work, and delighted all present with an artistic display of various sized rugs and cushions. The lucky number cushion competition was won by Mrs. 0. Paton. A wellstocked trades table did brisk business.
Appreciation was expressed by all present at the splendid efforts of the three demonstrators, who had helped to make the day such a success. All members are keenly looking forward to the Wliatatutu crafts day,, the date of which is to be made "known later,
