SUPPLY OF ORANGES
BELIEF OF SHORTAGE
SHIPMENTS ARRIVING
(Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. The shortage of oranges that has been experienced in Auckland during the put few months should he. remedied fin several months at least when supplies begin to arrive from the Cook Islands, where the season for fruit has just commenced.
The first winter shipment will arrive m Auckland by the Limerick, which is due on Tljursday. A further large consignment is expected by the Matna. which is expected about the middle of •next week. Supplies from the Cook Islands will continue to arrive for several months. Fiji oranges and mandarins have 'been arriving in Auckland for about a month, but shipments from this source will soon be exhausted. However, oranges from South Australia will soon be available. Shipments of fruit arrive occasionally from! Pitcairn Island. The vessels Jtemuera and Tamaroa, which reached Auckland this week, both stopped at the island on the way from England and look consignments on board. About 250 cases were landed at Auckland from the Rcmuera, while a further 100 cases were taken off the Tamaroa. This fruit was sold on Monday and yesterday at the city markets and realised an average price of about 15s.
