EXPRESSION OF LOYALTY
COOK COUNTY • TRIBUTE HOPE FOR WORLD PEACE "Twelve months ago. attention was drawn to the passing of one King ami the proclamation of another," said the chairman of the Cook County Council, Cr. Charles Matthews, in his annual report, to the council to-day. "This year lias seen the abdication of King Edward VIII and the proclamation and Coronation of King George VI. "Your council, as part of the Empire, was in no way behind in its loyalty to the throne, and has taken its part in the celebrations of the Coronation now drawing to a close. The hope is expressed that King George VI and his consort. Queen Elizabeth, may be long spared to reign over a loyal and devoted people. "The world outlook during this period has not been the happiest, for war and rumours of war unfortunately have been too common. The position in Spain, where civil war is being waged, brings sadness to all the world. Again the hope is expressed that differences may shortly be settled and the Nations of the World be constrained to live in peace."
A vow of loyalty was taken to the Throne on account of the meeting being the first since the Coronation.
