CAR SOMERSAULTS
COLLAPSE OF A WHEEL MAORI SRRTOUSLY HURT A party of live .Maoris returning north from the To Rapa races on Saturday wore injured when, their car turned a somersault on the main road just south of lltjrDtiu and finished up on the side of the road on all four wheels. The car. an old model sedan, was driven by Mr. John King, farmer, and contained four passengers. Mrs. King, Mrs. Whiunui. Willie Grey, and another native named Tumai.
The ear was passing the last, of a line of cars also going north when either a blow-out, occurred or one of the front wheels Rave way, and the cur swerved to tho side of tiie road and overturned. The front left wheel was subsequently found to have its spokes broken away from the rim. and it is thought this was the cause of the accident. The bodywork was wrecked beyond repair, and' glass was thrown about for several yards. There were tyre marks on tbe road for about, two chains. At the time of the accident, S.lfi p.m.. there was considerable traffic, and it was fortunate that only one car was involved. The five Maoris were taken in a St. John ambulance to the Waikato llos pitnl, where Grey, who is a Farm band, aged 917. married, working for Mr. It. Austin, of Rangiriri, was admitted with internal injuries and a fractured skull. The remaining four, all of whom were from Rangiriri, were treated for severe cuts nnil abrasions, and were then able lo go to I heir homos.
