Albert Ilorldy, a bricklayer, aged 31, \vho was charged with the murder of Mrs. May Godby, 36, the wife of Major Robert Godby, was found guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to three years' penal servitude. Mr. Justice Singleton, in summing up, said: "May it not be that this was reckless shooting in the direction of a woman, rather than with the intention of killing, or doing grievous bodily harm? If this is Hie truth, ii man slaughter, not murder."
.Mrs. flodby was shot dead after a wedding reception at which she and her husband had been guests in a. hotel at High Wycombe. She collapsed at her husband's feet. The couple had been seated at a table playing'dominoes. The Godbys only returned a few; days previously from New Zealand after a year's visit to Major Godby's mother.
