In the course of making adjustments to headlights of A.A, members’ cars, the resident patrol has noted that in a number of cases bulb replacements have been made without regard to the type of lamp used in a particular make of car. In the majority of American standard makes, headlights are fitted by tbe manufacturers with bulbs containing filaments in the shape of a “V,” the point of which is projected forward, while in most British makes of cars the headlight bulbs have a straight filament. Replacement- of either type with the other lias led to a diminution of efficiency in the lighting of many cars inspected by the patrol, the peculiar characteristics of the respective types of lamp evidently having escaped the notice of some mechanics in the district.
