TO-DAY'S WEDDING

DOBSON—GARDNER A very pretty wedding of wide social interest in the "district took place at St. Luke's Church, Waerenga-a-hika, this afternoon when Mary Ruth, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gardner. Hilnroroa station, was married to Robert Graham, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dobson. Hurahura road. Gisborne. The Rev. 11. Speight conducted the marriage service, and Mrs. Fade presided at the organ. The pretty little church was artistically decprated with mixed flowers in purple and mauve tonings and beautiful copper beech foliagp, the colours matching the floral headbands and bouquets of the bridesmaids and blending prettily with the pastel shades of their frocks. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in her lovely frock of" pale' parchment georgette, which was cut on straight fitting lines in Princess style. The long tight-fitting sleeves were finished witli buttons from the wrist to elbow, and a row of buttons fastened the bodice at the back. The n«ckline was softened with a scarf which was caught at one side of the front with a diamond brooch. Tho long graceful skirt was slightly flared from the knees to the hem, and formed a train at the back. The long dainty veil of parchment tulle was worn over the face and arranged to the bride's head with a narrow coronet of orange blossom. Brocaded crepe-de-chine shoes to match her frock were worn by the bride with chiffon hose to tone, and sho carried a beautiful shower bouquet of parchment roses and carnations.

• Holding the bride's train .were two dainty little girls, Louise Parker and Prudence Nathan, wearing long frocks of shell pink chiffon and head-bands of purple, mauve and pink velvet flowers. Following them into the church were five bridesmaids, wearing very pretty frocks of chiffon in various delicate tonlllgs. Miss Jeanette Donlop in silver grey, Miss Elsie Thomas, in light duckegg green, Miss Barbara Kemp, in pale dusty pink, Miss Jocelyn Bloomfield, in light sky blue, and Miss Bunty Dobson, sister of the bridegroom, in soft primrose yellow. The frocks were fashioned alike. on long graceful Jincs, each with a cowl neckline, long very full raglau sleeves with diagonal inverted tucks near the elbows and gathered into a narrow hand at each wrist. Small grey buttons ami loops down the back gave a smalt finishing touch to the corsage. The groundlength gored skirt fitted closely over the hips, gradually widening in soft full flares towards the hem. Held in place by a wreath of purple, mauvo and pink flowers around her head, a dainty eyeveil of tulle to match her frock, was worn by each bridesmaid, whose graceful ensemble was completed with a shower houquet of petunia purple ami mauve dahlias, which she carried.

The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. Malcolm Dobson, as best man, and by Messrs. N. Loiscl, Y. Hutchinson, R. O. Black and J. Gardner, brother of the bride, as groomsmen After the ceremony at the church a delightful reception was held at "Awatea." the residence of the bride's parents at Hfxton. In the grounds a large marquee had been erected, in which the wrdding breakfast was set, the tables being artistically arranged with shallow bowls of purple,' mauve and pink flowers. ' Mr. and Mrs. Gardner received the guests, the hostess wearing a charming, ensemble of fine chocolate brown lace, the hip-length coatee having long sleeves, and the plainly cut frock being finished at the neck front with pink velvet carnations. Her brown Bangkok straw hat was hound with brown velvet, to match the velvet baud around the crown. She was holding a beautiful bouquet of pale pink carnations and autumn foliage. The guests were then welcomed by tho bridegroom's parents, .Mrs. Dobson \s smartly modelled frock of black embossed cloque having long tight-fitting sleeves, with a slight fullne,ss at the top, a square iißckline relieved in front with flat flowers in off-white shade, and a plain bodice slightly eased at the sides. She wore a small" hat of black peach-bloom felt trimmed with a white mount and held a lovely bouquet of flowers in mauve and violet tonings. A smart frock of navy blue georgette, with elbow-length three flounced sleeves, n pleated yoke and two white organdie flowers at 'the neck front, was worn by Airs. H. E. Cave, sister of the bride, with a white Bangkok straw hat trimmed with navy velvet.

Mr*. G. I. Falkner, grandmother of ♦he bride, wore a becoming ensemble in hjjack and white, with a black hat, and *arri*d a bouquet of purple flowers.

While tho wedding-breakfast was in progress the usual toasts were honoured, and during the afternoon the guests took ♦he opportunity of seeing the beautiful wedding presents, which were displayed to advantage in the house, whej'o the floral decorations were prettily carried out in mixed flowers in mauve, pink and purple tonings intermingled with autumn foliage. The pretty garden was an ideal setting for the reception; the guests spending a happy afternoon in the bright sunshine.

Amid showers of confetti, the bride and bridegroom left later in the day for their wedding trip, Mrs. Dobson travelling in an exceedingly smart model tailored frock of dark brown dull crepe, cut with a cowl neck, and loner full sleeves gathered into narrow cuffs; a imall brown felt hat trimmed with a scarlet quill to match her scarlet leather handbagi; brown suede shoes, and a handsome South American skunk fur stole.
