CONTROL OF TRAFFIC
WAIROA TRANSPORT COUNTY COUNCIL REPORT (Herald Correspondent.) At the Wairoa County Council meeting! this week the following matters concerning Wairoa transport wore dealt with : The. Minister of Transport requested the co-operation of the council in mainlaming a proper standard of safety on roads and making recommendations. — The matter was referred to the engineer for a report. The Minister also forwarded a copy of the hew traffic regulations.—The chairman stated that all Speed signs must now be erected by the council. The acting Commissioner of Transport forwarded a copy of-.a warrant gazetted disallowing certain by-laws! relating to the speed of motor vehicles, —This was referred to the engineer.
The llawke's Bay County Council advised that an allocation of heavy traffic, fees would be made, to local bodies in the flawke's Bay traffic group for the year ended March 31, 1936, when the figures and computations had been checked.— The clerk said the amount Would exceed £IGOO.
The traffic, inspector, Mr. R. \V. Hawthorne, reported that since, last meeting of the council 94 motor drivers' licenses had been issued, making the total 1012; and also 39 heavy traffic licenses. Since the last meetingi Mr. CM. Pilkington had been appointed traffic inspector for the Main Highways Board in the Wairoa County area. The county was still expected to test candidates for drivers' licenses and it was an increasingly difficult matter to cope with the traffic and engineering work. .During carnival week hiucli appreciated assistance was given by Mr. Pilkington and Mr. J. Semple, Main Highways inspectors in the Napier area. Traffic on the whole was very well conducted for the period.
