Between 35,000 and 40.000 ewes were .offered at the Kwo Fair conducted to-day by the Poverty bay .Stockbrokers Association at. the Matawhero Kaleyards, and although it was expected: lo lie a record ottering no claim could he made to this etfeel until the otlicial figures vvei'o known later in the day.

Outside buyers were well represented in a large gathering. Extra accommodation for 0000 sheep had been made, hut, despite this, many lots wore yarded in paddocks, and at 9 a.in. (trailing was still going on.

The prices were quite equal to those of last, season. The sheep were, better bred and came forward in straight store lines. Compared with the last fair twotooths were easier, but other sorts maintained their values.

OPOTIKI SHEEP FAIR COMPETITION KEEN The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report on the recent sheep fair at Opotiki as follows: “We had a very heavy yarding of sheep, which met with spirited competition. Buyers were present in large numbers, from all parts of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, sheep being purchased to go as far north as Rai'gaville. Competition was very keen for breeding ewes and 4-looth wethers. Sheep were in first-class: condition. Wo report a total clearance at prices well in advance of pricost ruling last year. Prices realised were

lwo-tooth wethers.-—Prjj'es ranged from 21s 7d, 225, 22s lOd to 23s 2d. Four-tooth wethers. —There was a large entry. Wethers from Messrs. Sundell and Hermanson, Toaton, made 275, other prices being; From Mr. ,T. If. Reid, Toaton, 26s 3d: Mr. 11. Yardlcy, 26s 9d: Mr. F. B. Starkey, 26si 3d; Amokuru station, 26s 3d; Air. 11. \V. Munro, 26s 6d. Smaller soi ls sold from 24s 9d to 26s 6(1, and mixed ago wethers from 24s to 2.6 s 6d.

Two-tooth ewes.—Mr. W. W. Butler, sen., again topped the market with a nice pen that made 375. Messrs. Looney Bros, also yarded a big line, whicii made from 3Cs to 355. Olliers made 26s fo 28s 6d.

Mixed-age ewes.—27s ICd to 31s 6d. Five-year owes, ages guaranteed.— There was a large entry; top price, ewes from Messrs. Sundell and Hcrmnnson, 30s 3d; others. 27s to 30s; smaller sorts, 23s to 26s Cd. Six-year ewes.—24s to 26s 4d. Aged ewes.—l6s 8d to .£1 Is 9d

Cull ewes.—l2s 3d to 15s.
