A sentence of four months’ hard labour was imposed on -Frederick Murray, aged 40, Australian born, for an offence known as “ringing the changes” on September 28. Tlie victim was Bessie Lear, who keeps a bakery shop at Newtown. The accused had disappeared, but was subsequently located at Christchurch, where he was serving a sentence for the theft of a wallet and .£6 in money, which a man dropped in an hotel. He was sentenced to 14 days’ gaol with hard labour for this offence. Accused was stated to have a long list.
